What is a ‘Connect’ space?

People don’t come together just to work – but to connect. Connection is all about interacting with other employees in spaces designed not just for work, but to make people feel comfortable, relaxed and at home in the workplace.

Depending on the size of your organisation, these can be entire floors, rooms, or simply a dedicated corner with soft seating or a bench table. These spaces not only offer a place away from the desk for people to take their lunch, take a break or simply hold informal communications, but they are vital when it comes to building company culture and social capital.

Environments that cater for these interactions are the often-overlooked icing on the cake when it comes to workplace design. It is important to thinking beyond meeting rooms, to touchdown spaces, communal dining, places for colleagues to catch up and reconnect.

Placing these social environments in central positions helps to create natural collision zones, stimulating cross team communication whilst also acting as a natural buffer between different teams or departments, so as not to disturb those focusing.
